The gas environment of galaxies across 10 billion years

Abstract

The evolution of galaxies is closely connected to the gas environment in which galaxies reside. Traditionally, the focus has been on star formation driven by cold gas accretion, but we are now realizing that the hot, diffuse circumgalactic medium (CGM) plays a crucial role in regulating galaxy growth. I will present results from a large observational campaign targeting the gas around galaxies across 10 billion years of cosmic time, revealing how this gas evolves and interacts with the galaxies it surrounds.
