Performance and robustness for future exoplanet imagers

Abstract

The next objective in exoplanet direct imaging is to study dozens of rocky exoplanets orbiting M-type stars. To this purpose, instruments will need to achieve extremely high contrast (10^-8 or better) at small angular separations. I will present our work on developing new coronagraphic and wavefront sensing concepts to meet these requirements, and discuss the robustness of these approaches to realistic aberrations and manufacturing errors.
