Galaxy morphology: how the growth of their bulge shapes the evolution of galaxies
Abstract
Almost a century after the publication of the Hubble sequence, that classifies galaxies by their morphology, we still lack a complete understanding of how galaxies acquire and transform their shapes over cosmic time. In this talk, I will focus on the role of bulges in shaping galaxy morphology. Using a combination of observations and simulations, I will show how the growth of bulges is connected to the quenching of star formation and the overall evolution of galaxies.
