The gaseous environment of galaxies over 10 billion years
Abstract
The evolution of galaxies is closely linked to the gas environment in which they reside. Traditionally, the focus has been on star formation driven by cold gas accretion, but we are now realizing that the hot, diffuse circumgalactic medium (CGM) plays a crucial role in regulating galaxy growth. I will present results from a large observational campaign targeting the gas around galaxies spanning 10 billion years of cosmic history, revealing how this gas evolves and interacts with the galaxies it surrounds.
