Education

CRAL hosts the second-year program of the Lyon-Montpellier Master’s in Astrophysics and provides a workspace for its students outside of class.

Each year, the CRAL offers undergraduate and graduate internship topics, including to IUTs and engineering schools, as well as thesis topics for the pursuit of a Ph.D. in Physics and Astrophysics.

CRAL staff conduct various teaching activities at public educational institutions, particularly at UCBL1 and the ENS de Lyon, in collaboration with the Lyon Academy’s Office of Education. These activities are designed for students, schoolchildren through internships, and teachers through continuing education.

Teacher Training

At the Lyon Astrophysics Research Center (CRAL), astronomers from the National Corps of Astronomers and Physicists (CNAP) offer training for teachers as well as support for astronomy-related projects. The variety of activities offered aims to encourage teachers to use astronomy to enrich their lessons.

Highly multidisciplinary, astrophysics holds great appeal for young people and offers a unique approach to science education. Physics and mathematics, of course, but also chemistry, Earth sciences, and geography are all connected to astronomy.

  • The CRAL offers teachers a range of training opportunities (continuing education courses registered in the Academic Training Plan (PAF), monthly workshops) and support to assist with classes, cultural activities, Art and Culture Project classes (PAC classes), Interdisciplinary Practical Instruction (EPI), etc.
  • CRAL astronomers also provide oversight and assistance for projects involving astronomy. They develop and make educational materials available. They can offer advice on building astronomical equipment.
  • Through the fundamental physics and astrophysics experiments made available to them, students and teachers, under the guidance of researchers, can experiment and practice to understand the fundamentals of physics.
