"Science: A Woman's Field!" #8

The "Science: A Field for Women!" event returns in 2024 for the 8th consecutive year to address the underrepresentation of women in science. This event is specifically designed for high school girls in the Lyon School District to encourage them to pursue studies in science and technology.

This year’s honorary patron is Anne L’Huillier, winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics!

The lack of female role models in the scientific world has a huge impact on how young girls perceive women’s place in science. The event aims to demonstrate through real-life examples that all scientific careers are open to both genders. Our goal is to help young girls deconstruct gender stereotypes and overcome the preconceived notions that prevent them from envisioning themselves in science and technology.
On this day, nearly 500 high school girls meet with women scientists working in a wide variety of fields—role models with whom the students can identify.

Launched in 2017 by Isabelle Vauglin of CRAL and the Femmes & Sciences association, the event is organized annually with Audrey Mazur of LabEx ASLAN and the ICAR laboratory, with strong support from the ENS de Lyon.
