Recent R&D progress in wavefront sensing and adaptive optics control

Abstract

The talk will consist of three parts. The first part will discuss the novel concept of time-resolved wavefront sensing, which is based on SPAD-array detectors. I will present our most recent simulation results showing the significant increase in sensitivity enabled by this technique, as well as our plans for laboratory and on-sky demonstrations. In the second part, I will discuss recent developments using AI-based AO reconstructors to overcome the nonlinearities in pyramid wavefront sensors. In the third part, I will present recent on-sky results obtained with REVOLT, the AO test-bench on our local 1.2-meter telescope, including fiber injection of AO-corrected light and open-loop AO.
