Thomas Buchert Receives the Levi-Civita Prize

Thomas Buchert, a professor at the University of Lyon 1 and a researcher at the Lyon Astrophysics Research Center, has been awarded the “Tullio Levi-Civita Prize for Mathematical and Mechanical Sciences.”

He was awarded this prize for his innovative research in relativistic cosmology. His findings have had a significant impact on the field of theoretical cosmology (such as Lagrangian perturbation theory, the “Buchert Equations” for the average of Einstein’s equations) and observational cosmology (such as the analysis of galaxy and supernova surveys and the study of the cosmic microwave background using innovative mathematical and statistical techniques).
